UP: Man gets 10-yrs imprisonment under Pocso Act

Bahraich (UP), May 6: A man was sentenced to 10-years imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 60,000 for attempting to sexually molest a minor girl by a local court here on Saturday, prosecution counsels said.
Special District Government Counsel Sant Pratap Singh and Special Public Prosecutor Santosh Kumar Singh said that on April 10 night Mohammad Shareef attempted to rape a 15-year-old girl in Ram Gaon area of Bahraich district. “The accused fled from the spot after the girl raised the alarm,” they said.
They said that the police filed the charge sheet against the accused in the court 10 days after the incident. “The matter was heard by the court of Additional Sessions Judge (Pocso Act) Varun Mohit Nigam which held the accused guilty within a month and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment along with a penalty of Rs 60,000,” they said.
The government counsels said that Shareef was sent to jail after the court pronounced its order.
