Chennai, May 6: Four time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

bowlers, especially pacers, came up with a fine display to restrict Mumbai Indians to 139 for 8, despite a fighting half century by Nehal Wadhera, in the IPL match at the M.A.Chidambaram stadium here today.

Medium pacer Matheesha Pathirana picked up three wickets in the death overs, while Deepak Chahar and Tushar Dehspande ripped through the top order to put MI on the backfoot.

Deepak Chahar and Deshpande picked up two wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja got one wicket.

Asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians lost three wickets in the power play, recovered though Wadhera’s 64 (51 balls, 8×4, 1×6) and short cameos by Suryakumar Yadav

(26, 22 balls, 3×4) and Tristan Stubbs (20, 21 balls, 2×4), before MI lost wickets in the final overs to be restricted to a moderate total.

MI were struggling at 14 for three by the third over, recovered briefly through a 55-run fourth wicket stand between Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav in 8.4 overs, before the latter was castled by Ravindra Jadeja.

Wadhera added another 54 rusn for the fifth wicket with Stubbs in 6.3 overs, as rest of the batsmen failed to make an impact.

Except Wadhera, Suryakumar Yadav and Stubbs, none of the other batsmen failed to record a double figure score as CSK bowlers kept them on tight leash.

Tushar Deshpande started the slide getting rid of Cameroon Green, who opened with Ishan Kishan, in his first over, and Deepak Chahar picked up two wickets in the next over removing Ishan Kishan (6) and skipper Rohit Sharma, who failed to open his account.

In fact it was CSK skipper MS Dhoni’s tactical captaincy that led to the fall of Rohit Sharma.

The MI skipper who came in at No.3 after the exit of Green, fell of the first ball he faced.

Knowing fully well that Rohit will step out and give charge to the bowler, Dhoni called for a helmet, and stood up to the wicket to pacer Deepak Chahar.

Rohit tried for a scoop over the short square leg, but the ball was shade over the middle stump and the resultant edge flew to short point.

It was Ravindra Jadeja ‘s key breakthrough by getting rid of Suryakumar Yadav, that put the brakes on MI, which reached 100 in 15.2 overs before adding another 39 in the death overs.
