Journalism Awards Committee announces Ninth edition of Journalism Awards 2023

Kolkata, May 4: The ninth edition of “Journalism Awards” has been announced by the Journalism Awards Committee.
The awards aim to recognize the outstanding work of journalists who have made a significant contribution to the field of journalism.

The Journalism Awards 2023 will be open to all West Bengal based journalists who have worked
in the industry for at least one year, with categories for print, broadcast, and online journalism.
The awards will recognize excellence in reporting, investigative journalism, opinion writing, feature writing and photography among other categories.

Since its inception in 2009, Journalism Awards has emerged as one of the premium award ceremonies in Eastern India, celebrating excellence in journalism. It has carved a niche for itself
and gained popularity in the media fraternity across West Bengal, for recognizing their contribution
to journalism.

This year Journalism Awards Committee would comprise of eminent journalists like Chittaranjan Biswas, veteran Sports Journalist of Anandabazar Patrika, Abhijit Dasgupta, former Director, Doordarshan, Buroshiva Dasgupta, Ex-resident editor of The Financial Express and Subrata Nag Choudhury, former Resident Editor, Indian Express.
Apart from honouring the journalists, the committee believes in recognizing the works of the unsung heroes of the society. In future, this committee plans to diverge into some social activities to help the financially deprived and backward journalists.

To be eligible, the news material must be published during 1st January 2022 to 31st December, 2022. A Panel of eminent judges chosen by the Jury Members of the ‘Journalism Awards Committee’ will further screen the entries to choose the winner from each category, according to a media statement here on Thursday.

The last date for filing the nominations would be 30th June’23. The final award ceremony would be held on August’23, the date of the award ceremony would be announced soon.

The number of award categories are 21. The categories are Business, District Reporting, Electronic Media – Reporting, Electronic Media – Cameraman, General News (Bengali, English, Hindi and Urdu), Feature (Bengali, English, Hindi and Urdu), Lifestyle & Cinema (Bengali and English), Print Media Photography-Lifestyle, Print Media Photography-Sports, Print Media Photography-Feature, Print Media Photography-News, Sports (Bengali and English) and Bloggers Award.

The Journalism Awards, since its inception, has seen eminent personalities from different fields attending the ceremony over the years. Notable guests included former Union Information & Broadcast Minister Late Priyaranjan Dasmunshi, former Kolkata Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, actor Late Soumitra Chatterjee, sports icon Ravi Shastri, Former Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy and others.
The eight edition of the award was graced by Former President of India, Late Pranab Mukherjee. The ceremony has featured judges from business, industry, performing arts, sports, and administration, such as Late Russi Modi, Raghu Rai, Late Ramaprasad Goenka, Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay and others. Attendance by the Kolkata media and guests from various fields has made the awards a grand success.
Over last eight editions the most prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award have been presented to legendary journalists like Late Moti Nandi, Late Nihaal Singh, Late Amitava Chowdhury, Late Uday Banerjee, Late Sukharanjan Sengupta and others. In 2019 renowned journalist Manojit Mitra received the first-ever Late Sumit Sen Lifetime Achievement Award from the former President of India, Late Pranab Mukherjee.
