Mysuru, May 4: Congress on Thursday said it would build Hanuman temples across the state if it is voted to power in the upcoming Assembly polls.

“Our party will construct new Anjaneya temples, on priority basis, in various parts of the state to honour the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka,” Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar told reporters after visiting Chamundeshwari temple here.

The party will also set up a special board to oversee the development of Anjanadri Hill and ensure its preservation, he said launching a tirade against BJP government for not developing the hill into a tourist spot.

“How many Anjaneya temples did the BJP government build? Their record on the matter remains unclear,” Shivakumar said.

The party will also organise specific programmes to educate the youth about the principles and values embodied by Lord Anjaneya for their spiritual and cultural upliftment of the state, he said.

Earlier, in a virtual about turn, former Karnataka Chief Minister Veerappa Moily said there is no intention to ban Bajrang Dal, and state governments do not have rights to ban the outfit, except the central government. The Congress manifesto had announced that the party would ban the Bajarang dl as also the Popular Front of India if it formed a government.
