Bengaluru, May 6: Amid the ongoing controversy over banning Bajrang Dal, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Saturday said in a tweet that a legal notice has been issued to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge seeking Rs 100 crore for “defaming” Bajrang Dal and “hurting the sentiments” of the Hindus globally.

The legal notice was sent by Chandigarh-based advocate Sahil Bansal, co-head of VHP’s Legal Cell, to Kharge on his Twitter account.

The notice alleged that Kharge “defamed” VHP and its affiliate Bajrang Dal by comparing them with PFI and other similar “terrorist” organisations.

In its manifesto released for the Karnataka assembly elections, Congress has promised to ban organisations like Bajrang Dal and PFI if the party came to power.

The notice states that the allegations in form of comparison of Bajrang Dal with PFI and other Talibani organisations “without any basis greatly maims and impairs the name and honour” of the members of Bajrang Dal and VHP.

The allegations also “defame” millions of Lord Hanuman’s followers who reverentially worship Him, it said.

The Bajrang Dal is totally devoted to the service of Dharma and in doing so devoted to the service of mankind, the notice said, describing the organisation’s credentials of the outfit as “unassailable and unimpeachable”.

The notice termed PFI and SIMI as “terrorist organisations associated with Al Qaeda and ISIS and other global terrorist organisations proscribed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act”.

The BJP has been trying to make it a major election issue in the state elections. Star campaigners of BJP including Primeu Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda and Yogi Adityanath have been harping on the issue and accsing Congress of desecrating Bajrang Bali.

Voting for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections will be held on May 10. At the same time, the results will be declared on May 13.
